Person to Person
Our Person to Person services are designed to determine the interests and capabilities that may be translated into paid work. These participants are engaged in a variety of activities with their job coach including volunteering, assessments and skill building activities.
Brent's Story
Brent began working with Cascade in 2001. He was referred for assessment services through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Brent performed several community based assessments, one of which resulted in paid employment at a farm. Due to some personal challenges Brent later lost this job. CVS worked with Brent and his residential staff to identify ways to support Brent to be successful. Brent had many self identified support needs including anxiety. One of the ways Brent released this anxiety was through art work. CVS took this strength and built a business around it. Brent was able to obtain a business license and began selling his artwork throughout the community. This has helped Brent to build his self confidence.
After a while Brent decided he wanted to have the opportunity to work within the community again. He started by volunteering at his church pulling weeds and other landscaping jobs. Brent later decided he wanted a paycheck and he felt ready to take that next step. Brent’s job coach approached Denny’s restaurant about supported employment and “job carving”. Together with the manager, Brent’s job coach was able to identify a few jobs within the restaurant that fit Brent’s skills. Brent works one day a week, has one-on-one job coaching, and is working toward increasing his hours. We look forward to seeing where Brent’s pathway will take him next.
